At the Gumfarm Hunt Club, we want nothing more than for you to have an unforgettable and safe hunting experience. Whether you are new to hunting and would like some safety information, or you’re a seasoned pro in need of a little refresher, please read on and familiarize yourself with the following firearms and hunting safety tips.

  • Whenever you see a gun, pick up a gun, or point a gun, always assume that it is loaded.
  • Ensure that your safety is always on and that the barrel of the gun is pointed down when you are walking with or transporting your gun.
  • Be sure you are certain of your target. This means make sure that you are shooting at an animal, and not a human. In addition, make sure that your target is not near any humans.
  • Wear the necessary amount of orange so that you do not become another hunter’s target.
  • Hunt with a buddy and do not bring small children with you when hunting. If you can’t hunt with a buddy, make sure someone knows where you are and what time you are expected back.
  • Make sure your gun is working properly and that it has been serviced before you begin a new hunting season.
  • If you’re using new equipment, make sure that you know how it works before you attempt to operate it.
  • Always store and transport ammunition and guns separately.
  • Don’t shoot at sound or movement.
  • Do not climb a tree or fence with a loaded gun. Have someone hand you your gun with the safety on when you have reached position.
